Just 3 kilometers from the center of Palma de Mallorca, in the municipality of Son Vida, lies the historic Golf Son Vida. The course was designed by the architect F.W. Hawtree and his son, and it was inaugurated in 1964 by Prince Rainier of Monaco. Son Vida is the oldest golf course in the Balearic Islands. In 2001, it underwent a comprehensive renovation and partial redesign by golf course architect Kurt Rosenknecht.
Son Vida is an 18-hole, par 71 course, stretching 5,601 meters from the yellow tees. The first nine holes lead past magnificent villas and estates, with hilly, narrow fairways that demand focus and precision. While the views of Palma Bay and its cathedral are stunning, players are advised not to get distracted.
The back nine present a contrast: wider, flatter holes framed by trees and elegant houses. A highlight is hole 16, a par 3 measuring 133 meters, dropping steeply downhill over a water hazard. The course is of medium difficulty, but the stunning scenery alone makes it worth playing.
Golf Son Vida does not have its own driving range; instead, players use the practice facilities at Golf Son Muntaner, also part of the Schörghuber group. This expansive range is located below the Arabella Golf & Spa Resort and includes 75 practice bays, approach and bunker areas, a putting green, and three practice holes.
The clubhouse at Golf Son Vida features locker rooms, showers, a pro shop (also serving as the reception), and the restaurant “El Pato.” From its sunny terrace, complete with a small water feature, both members and guests enjoy a beautiful view.
